STORYLINE
Today we are Warming Up before our games. Your goal is to follow the Coach and listen to the instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS
- When I say, “GO!” run in the different animal movements from the baseline to the end line.
- Run like a turtle (run slowly and put your arms behind your back)
- Run like a cheetah (run as fast as you can)
- Run like a giraffe (put your arms together above your head to make a long neck)
- Run like an elephant (put your arm out in front of your body to make a trunk)
- Run like a penguin(put your arms out to the sideand waddle)
- Run like a dog
- Swim like a fish (use your arms to swim)
- Duck walk (squat and waddle like a duck)
- Bear crawl
- Hop like a bunny
- Leap like a frog
EQUIPMENT
1 long jump rope
1 short cone
5 volleyballs
1 hula-hoop
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Limbo Catch. Your goal is to catch a volleyball while going through the limbo line.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up single file behind the short marker cone.
- I will select two people to help be the limbo holders.
- When I say, “GO!” I will underhand toss the volleyball to the first person in line over the limbo line.
- After you have caught the volleyball, go underneath the limbo line with it.
- When I say, “GO!” I will underhand toss the volleyball to the first person in line over the limbo line.
- Return the volleyball to the hula-hoop and get in back of the line.
- We will begin a new game once everyone has gone through the limbo line once.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Children must bump/set to you to go under the limbo line.
TEACHING TIPS
- If children do not catch a volleyball, have them retry or go under anyways.
- Let other students hold the limbo.
EQUIPMENT
1 net
1 volleyball per child
1 parachute
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Landing Pad. Your goal is to try and land as many volleyballs as you can on the landing pad (parachute).
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, stand on the side of the net opposite of the parachute.
- When I say, “GO!” underhand hit (with both hands) or serve your ball (with one hand) over the net.
- Try and aim your ball to land on the parachute.
- Coach will stand on the opposite side of the net and will retrieve your balls.
- If someone doesn't want to play, have them help you collect balls
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Call out a color children must try and aim for.
TEACHING TIPS
- If getting the ball over the net is too difficult, remove the net.
- Remind children to make sure there is no one directly in front of them when they are hitting or serving.
- Consider having a stack of balls available to keep game going on.
EQUIPMENT

STORYLINE
Today we are playing a Volleyball Scrimmage. Your goal is to hit and catch a volleyball over the net.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide you into two groups.
- You must stay on your group’s side of the net.
- I will select one group to start with the ball.
- When I say, “GO!” hit the ball over the net to the opposite side.
- When the ball comes over to your side try and catch it.
- The Coach will decide who will serve/hit each time.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Add more volleyballs so more people can participate
- Keep score (Can make up the score to keep it even, shout out the 'score' once in a while)
TEACHING TIPS
- Divide groups equally based on athletic ability.
- Help a team if they are having trouble
- Adjust the height of the net that is appropriate for the children’s age group.
- Remind children they cannot push, shove or jump in front of another teammate when trying to catch the ball.
