STORYLINE
Today we are Warming Up before our games. Your goal is to follow the Coach and listen to the instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS
- When I say, “GO!” run in the different animal movements from the baseline to the end line.
- Run like a turtle (run slowly and put your arms behind your back)
- Run like a cheetah (run as fast as you can)
- Run like a giraffe (put your arms together above your head to make a long neck)
- Run like an elephant (put your arm out in front of your body to make a trunk)
- Run like a penguin(put your arms out to the sideand waddle)
- Run like a dog
- Swim like a fish (use your arms to swim)
- Duck walk (squat and waddle like a duck)
- Bear crawl
- Hop like a bunny
- Leap like a frog
EQUIPMENT
10 soccer balls
8 short cones (2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow, 2 green)
1 hula-hoop
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Hungry Hogs. In this game you are all piglets in a barn getting ready for the hungry hog feeding time. Your goal is to get all the barrels of hay (soccer balls) to the pens (goal) until all the hogs have full bellies.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
- When I say, “GO!” run towards the middle of the barn, grab a barrel of hay and dribble/kick it back to any pen.
- You may only take one barrel of hay at a time.
- We will begin a new game when there are no more barrels of hay and all the hogs have full bellies.
VARIATIONS
- Piglets can bring hay to any pen of their choosing.
- Specify which barn they need to bring the hay to.
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children to keep their heads up while dribbling to avoid bumping into others.
EQUIPMENT
1 soccer ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Sharks and Minnows. In this game, you are all fish swimming in shark-infested waters. Your goal is to safely swim (dribble) without a shark (tagger) eating you.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline with your ball.
- I will begin as the shark.
- When I say, “GO!” start swimming to the end line.
- If a shark tags you or kicks your ball out-of-bounds, you become seaweed.
- If you are seaweed, you must keep your feet planted where you were tagged. You may only move your arms to try and tag other minnows.
- If a shark tags you or kicks your ball out-of-bounds, you become seaweed.
- We will begin a new game when there is one minnow is left.
VARIATIONS
- Have children practice running to the end line without a ball first.
- Play as indicated above.
- Tagged children become sharks.
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children to keep their heads up while dribbling to avoid bumping into others.
- Remind children they should be dribbling and not kicking the ball far forward.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Meteor Shower. In this game, you are astronauts in space when you see a crazy alien. Your goal is kick your moon rock (soccer ball) towards the alien.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, spread out onto the field with your ball.
- I will begin as the alien.
- When I say, “GO!” begin dribbling your moon rock towards the alien as he/she runs away.
- Once you are near the alien, try to kick your moon rock in his/her direction.
- See how many times your moon rock can hit the alien.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- If Coach gets hit with a ball, pretend to fall down or stumble.
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children to be aware of the other balls being kicked around them
- Remind children they should be dribbling and not kicking the ball far forward.
EQUIPMENT
1 soccer ball per child
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Scrimmage B. Your goal is to shoot a soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide you into two teams – using soccer pinnies to tell who you are.
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder with your team on either the baseline or end line.
- When I say, “GO!”:
- Run to the midline
- Retrieve a ball
- Kick it into the opposing team’s goal
- You can only kick one ball at a time.
- After you have taken a shot, grab a ball from your own side and try again.
- Once you feel they’ve had enough, try different variations.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Keep track of how many goals are scored for each team.
- Everyone against Coach.
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children that there are enough balls on the midline for everyone.
- If you see someone sharing/being nice mention it out loud for everyone else to hear
- If a child does not have a ball guide them to one.
