STORYLINE
Today we are Warming Up before our games. Your goal is to follow the Coach and listen to the instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS
- When I say, “GO!” run in the different animal movements from the baseline to the end line.
- Run like a turtle (run slowly and put your arms behind your back)
- Run like a cheetah (run as fast as you can)
- Run like a giraffe (put your arms together above your head to make a long neck)
- Run like an elephant (put your arm out in front of your body to make a trunk)
- Run like a penguin(put your arms out to the sideand waddle)
- Run like a dog
- Swim like a fish (use your arms to swim)
- Duck walk (squat and waddle like a duck)
- Bear crawl
- Hop like a bunny
- Leap like a frog
EQUIPMENT
4 yardage markers
1 Nerf football per child
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Distance Throwing. Your goal is to see how far you can throw your football.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
- When I say, “GO!” throw your football as far as you can.
- After everyone has thrown, you may retrieve your ball and head back to the baseline.
- We will begin a new game once everyone is back at the baseline with their ball.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- After each group throw, mark the furthest one and try to beat it
- Try and hit Coach who is standing out in the field
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children everyone will be throwing their ball at the same time.
- Remind children they cannot get their ball until everyone has thrown.
- Remind children to be aware of the other balls being thrown around them

6 hula-hoop holders

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Football Toss. Your goal is to see how many times you can throw your football through the hula-hoop.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, spread out onto the field with your ball.
- When I say, “GO!” choose a hula-hoop to throw your ball through.
- If you make it through the hula-hoop, retrieve your ball and go to a new hula-hoop.
- If your ball does do not make it through, try again.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Have increased distances from the hoop for children to attempt.
- Choose a color order for the children to throw in.
TEACHING TIPS
- Encourage children to keep trying.
- Remind children to be aware of the other balls being thrown around them.

STORYLINE
Today we are practicing Catching. Your goal is to catch a toss from your teammate.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the practice begins, you must line up face to face with your teammate.
- When I say, “Start” begin gently toss the ball across to your teammate.
- When I say, “Stop!” freeze and hold on the ball.
- Try other variations once they have practiced a little.
VARIATIONS
- Pass normally.
- Increase the distance every catch.
- Have the children form a circle and throw it between each other.
TEACHING TIPS
- Demonstrate how to catch and pass to the children.
- Remind children to gently pass it.
- Have them call out each other’s name to make sure they are ready.
EQUIPMENT

1 short cone per child
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Lateral Pass. Your goal is to catch a thrown football from all of your teammates.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will select one person to begin in the middle of the circle.
- Everyone else will stand behind a marker cone with their ball.
- When I say, “GO!” I will call out a child’s name to throw their ball to the person in the middle.
- You cannot throw a ball until the person in the middle is looking at you.
- I will continue to call out names until everyone has thrown their ball.
- We will begin a new game once I select a new person to stand in the middle.
VARIATIONS
- Have the person in the middle turn clockwise every throw.
- Play as indicated above.
- If the ball is dropped have to restart w/ a new catcher.
TEACHING TIPS
- Remind children to toss footballs lightly so that the person in the middle has a greater chance of catching them.
- Remind children to be aware of footballs being thrown around them.

STORYLINE
Today we are practicing Running. Your goal run across the field without dropping the football.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the practice begins, you must line up on the baseline.
- When I say, “Start” begin running.
- When I say, “Stop!” freeze and hold on the ball.
- Try other variations once they have practiced a little.
VARIATIONS
- Hold on to ball and run.
- Use one hand to hold the ball and run.
- Gently toss the ball up and down while walking/running.
TEACHING TIPS
- Demonstrate how to do each variation to the children.
- Remind children to keep their head up and watch out for others.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Football Obstacle Course. Your goal is to make your way through the obstacle course.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up single file behind the marker cone.
- When I say, “GO!” the first person in line will make his/her way across the balance beams, high-knee through the ladder, weave around the tall cones and throw their ball through the last hula-hoop.
- If you fall off the balance beams, restart and try again.
- The next person in line can go when the person in front of you has made it onto the second balance beam.
- Once you have made your throw, retrieve your ball and restart.
VARIATIONS
- Play as indicated above.
- Change layout of the course.
TEACHING TIPS
- Add or remove equipment based on your classes’ athletic ability.
- Demonstrate how to go through the obstacle course before beginning.
