STORYLINE

Today we are playing make an out. You and your partner will try to be the first team to make an out.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide you into pairs. One of you will be the thrower, one, the catcher. You will switch after each round.
  • Before the game begins, the throwers will line-up shoulder to shoulder by home base.
    • The catchers will line up on dots on the opposite end of the field facing away from the throwers.
  • When I say, “GO!” the throwers will throw their balls into the outfield.
    • The catchers will then turn around run and grab a foam ball and run it to a base as fast as a cheetah.
      • First team back to the base wins
  • Once all the catchers make it to a base, a new game will begin.

VARIATIONS

  • Play as indicated above.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Remind children to keep their heads up while running around the bases to avoid bumping into others.

STORYLINE
Today we are going to play a game call Code Baseball. In order to save the animals on Planet Fuzzy the team must crack the code by following the coach's directions to get the fuzzy people back to home plate safely. If the team doesn't follow the directions exactly, the code won't be cracked and the fuzzy people will be left.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Have fuzzy balls set all over the field.
  • The goal is to have each kid grab a fuzzy ball, make it through all the bases and place the fuzzy ball in the hula hoop after home base all while using hand signals.
  • Tell the kids after the coach gives the instructions, he or she will not be able to talk since this is a secret mission and will only be able to use hand signals. So they have to freeze and look at coach after each step.
  • Tell the kids the hand signals:
    • Hand signal for fuzzy ball (just make a ball in your hand)
    • Hand signals for 1st  (1 finger), 2nd (2 fingers), 3rd (3 fingers) and home plate (hands make a tee-pee house).
    •  Add fun signals to make them do a dance party, spin around, do jumping jacks, run in place or push-ups.
  • Once all kids know all of the signals for the game, give out directions silently using hand signals, giving thumbs up when they get the next step.
  • Do a few more rounds, adding new hand signals, running or a new scenario.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Hot Lava Bases. In this game, someone from your team will hit the ball off the tee. Then, as a team, you will try to run as many bases without stepping on the turf, as fast as you can before the coach gets the ball and brings it to the nearest base

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will select one person to start off as the batter.
  • Everyone else will be runners.
  • Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline behind home plate.
  • When I say, "GO!" the batter will hit the ball as far as possible.
  •  As soon as the ball is hit, run to as many bases as you can (you must run them in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Home) without touching the green turf.
  •  See how far you can go before the coach gets the ball and runs to the nearest base.
  • Have every kid take a turn batting.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing a Baseball Scrimmage. Your goal is to hit a beach ball off a tee and field the ball.

INSTRUCTIONS
Before the game begins, spread out into the field.
I will select which person to bat first.
Once you have batted, run to 1st base.
If you are in the outfield, retrieve the ball once it has been hit.
We will begin a new game once everyone has had a chance to bat.

TEACHING TIPS
Approach: Help children bat by placing your hands on top of theirs while swinging.
Approach: It is up to the Coach's discretion to use a tee or underhand pitch to the batter.
