WEEK 5-6 LESSON PLANS
STORYLINE
Today we are Warming Up before our games. Your goal is to follow the Coach and listen to instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS
When I say, “GO!”:
o Stretch - up into sky then touch your toeso Do 10 arm circles forward and backwardo Sit on your bottom and stretch to toes
o Calf stretch
o Flamingo stretchRun without the soccer ball from baseline to end line
Dribble with your soccer ball from baseline to end line.
TECHNIQUE
Today we are going to learn how to dribble using an inside-inside pattern.
IMPORTANCE
Dribbling using an inside-inside pattern is important because it improves your rhythm and ability to use different parts of your feet while controlling the ball.
When dribbling using an inside-inside pattern, it is important to:
1. Lock your ankle and keep your toes up.
2. Touch the ball with the inside of your feet (push the ball, don not kick it).
3. Alternate feet (right, left, right, left, etc).
TECHNIQUE
Today we are going to learn how to get back on defense.
IMPORTANCE
Getting back on defense is important because it stops the other team from getting close to your goal and prevents the other team from scoring.
When getting back on defense, it is important to:
1. When your team loses the ball, run back towards your goal (you can run faster than the dribbler because you do not have the ball).
2. Place yourself between the ball and your goal.
3. Turn and face the ball.
EQUIPMENT
1 soccer ball per child
10 short cones
2 goals
3 pinnies

Everyone else will have a soccer ball.
Before the game begins, spread out in the field while staying inside the boundary cones.

If your ball gets stolen by a pirate and he/she scores a goal, then you become a pirate.
We will begin a new round when there are no more balls left.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
TEACHING TIPS

Today we are playing Round About. Your goal is to be the first person to get the soccer ball first and score a goal.

Today we are playing a Coach Lead Scrimmage. Your goal is to shoot a soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal.
INSTRUCTIONS
I will divide you into two teams –using pinnies to tell who you are.
Before the game begins, spread out on your side of the field.
I will decide which team starts with the ball first.
When I say, “GO!” the team with the ball will start.
You cannot touch the ball with your hands, you can only kick the ball.
There are no goalies, you must stand 3 – 5 feet away from your goal when defending.
If a goal is scored, go back to your team’s side and we will begin a new round.
If I blow my whistle at any point, freeze where you are.
Game 1: Play as indicated above. Coach can blow his/her whistle at any point to give instruction during the game.

Approach: Divide teams equally based on athletic ability.
Approach: Remind children the whistle will be blown at various times during the game for teaching moments.
Approach: Add short cones around the goal if defenders are staying 3 – 5 feet away.
Discussion: Ask children to share what was easy or hard about getting back on defense.

Today we are playing Transformers. Your goal is to dribble from one end to the other avoiding the transformers.
INSTRUCTIONS
I will select three people to start off as transformers.
Transformers will transform their body into a different shape (bridge, straddle, log, starfish, etc.) and will
spread out in the field.
Transformers can move their bodies at any point, but must remain in the same body shape.
Everyone else will line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
When I say, “GO!” you must dribble your ball to the end line with it getting stolen or kicked out-of-bounds
by a transformer.
After each round I will add another transformer.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Add transformers based on an identifier (“If you have blonde hair...”, “If you are wearing black shoes...”, “If are six years old...” etc.

Today we are playing Hustle Back. Your goal is to hustle back on defense and attack the ball by kicking it out-of- bounds.
INSTRUCTIONS
I will divide you into two teams – offense and defense, using flags to tell who you are.
The offense will line up three feet in front of the defense and will start with the ball.
The defense will line up on the baseline.
When I say, “GO!” both the offense and defense will leave at the same time. The offense will try and score
a goal before a defender can kick it out of bounds.
If the offense scores a goal they get one point.
If the defense kicks the ball out-of-bounds they get one point.
After each round children will switch roles.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Increase the number of passes the offense has to make before scoring.
Game 3: Increase the distance between the offense and defense at the beginning of each round.
TEACHING TIPS
Approach: Divide teams equally based on athletic ability.
Safety: Remind students there is no sliding on defense.
Discussion: Ask students to share what was easy or hard about turning and facing their body to the ball when getting back on defense.
