STORYLINE
Today we are playing Soccer Avalanche. In this game you are hikers crossing the Swiss Alps when an avalanche is suddenly caused by the Abominable Snowman. Your goal is to make it to your cabin (end line) without being hit by a snowball (soccer ball).

INSTRUCTIONS

• I will divide you into two teams the hikers and the Abominable Snow People
• Before the game begins, the hikers will line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
• The Abominable Snow People will split into two groups and stand on the opposite sides.
• When I say GO! the hikers must run to their cabin.
• The Abominable Snow People must pass snowballs back and forth to one another trying to hit hikers at their feet.
• If a hiker is hit, he/she must stay at their cabin.
• It does not count if a hiker is hit above the knees.
• We will begin a new game when there are two hikers left.
• At the end of each game, hikers and Abominable Snow People will switch roles.

TEACHING TIPS

• Approach: Keep games short so that each student gets a turn at being both a hiker and an Abominable Snowperson. 
• Discussion: Ask students to share what was easy or hard about receiving a pass while being an Abominable Snowperson in this game.
