STORYLINE
Today we are playing Boat Races. Your goal is to use the lily pads to get your crew to the end of the river.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the group into four teams.
- I will select one boat captain.
- The rest of the group will be the crew.
- When I say "GO!" the boat captain must get the crew to the other side using the dots given to them.
- If you jump and miss the dot, you must go back to the beginning and start again.
- We will begin a new round when all teams make it to the end.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Variation: Put a hula-hoop in the way for each team and tell them that it is an alligator in the river an you must not touch it
Variation: Reduce the number of lily pads to increase the difficulty
Variation: Have the entire group try to get across the river together
Variation: Remove the boat and have the entire group try to get across the river using only the lily pads
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Pick a new boat captain at the beginning of the new round.
