OPENING RUNS

  • Today we're going to take some trips. Grab your steering wheels, we're going to go for our first drive!

  • Have kids pretend to drive their "cars" to one end of the field and park their cars at their dots.

    • Drive to the park and ask kids, "what do you see at the park? do you like to use the slide? the swings?"

    • Drive to the zoo and ask kids, "what animals do you see at the zoo? what animal has a long trunk?"

    • Drive to Disneyland or the grocery store or movies and ask kids, "what do you see at these places"

  • Then say, "now we're going to be airplanes!" Collect all of the steering wheels.

    • Fly to Hawaii and ask kids, "what animals live in the ocean?"

      • Have kids do the hula dance with you for extra fun

  • Then say, "now we're going to be a train!" Put your arm up and say, "Chooo, choo, we're going to take the train to San Francisco.

    • Train to SF and ask kids, "what's the big bridge called in San Francisco?"

      • Show kids how to make a bridge with their hands and say, "the Golden Gate bridge is red! What color is the bridge?"

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Colors. In this game, we are practicing our colors as Coach tries to guess which color beanbag we are holding behind our back.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline with your parent.

  • I will walk down the line and as I cover my eyes, reach into the beanbag bag and choose a beanbag.

  • Hold your beanbag behind your backso that I do not see which color you have.

  • I will begin by guessing colors.

  • If I guess your color beanbag correctly, run as fast as you can to the end line.

  • Once everyone is on the end line, I will collect the beanbags for you to choose a new color.

  • Now, this time, when I call your color:

    • Run as fast as you can to the end line

    • I will try my best to tag you.

  • Now this time, listen carefully:

    • If i say, “RAINBOW!” everyone still on the line must run together to the other side.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind parents to help their children remember their color when to run.

  • Approach: Encourage children not to get upset about which color they choose out of the beanbag.

  • Approach: If playing with tagging, do not actually tag children but let them run past you

    • Can you place your ball on your head?

    • Can you touch your ball to your toes/knees/belly/shoulders?

    • I will add extra balls to the circle.

    • When I say, “GO!” I will call out different colors and textures of the different balls for you to find. (I.e., Can you find a ball that is small/fuzzy/has the color red?)

    • Parents, help your child find a new ball to match each description.

    • When you find a ball that matches my description, hold it up for us to see.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: When passing out the balls, choose which ball each child will get. Encourage them not to get upset if they want a specific color or ball.
