EQUIPMENT

1 foam ring per child

1 dot per child 

STORYLINE
Today we are going to start class by taking a few trips. We'll start on our dots and take a car, a plane and a train! 

OPENING RUNS

  • Today we're going to take some trips. Grab your steering wheels, we're going to go for our first drive! 
  • Have kids pretend to drive their "cars" to one end of the field and park their cars at their dots.
    • Drive to the park and ask kids, "what do you see at the park? do you like to use the slide? the swings?"
    • Drive to the zoo and ask kids, "what animals do you see at the zoo? what animal has a long trunk?" 
    • Drive to Disneyland or the grocery store or movies and ask kids, "what do you see at these places" 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be airplanes!" Collect all of the steering wheels.
    • Fly to Hawaii and ask kids, "what animals live in the ocean?"
      • Have kids do the hula dance with you for extra fun 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be a train!" Put your arm up and say, "Chooo, choo, we're going to take the train to San Francisco. 
    • Train to SF and ask kids, "what's the big bridge called in San Francisco?" 
      • Show kids how to make a bridge with their hands and say, "the Golden Gate bridge is red! What color is the bridge?"
  • Add any variations needed to make it more fun or take different trips.

EQUIPMENT

6 hula-hoops

6 hula-hoop holders

1 Nerf football per child

Optional: 6 flags

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Football Toss. Your goal is to see how many times you can throw your football through the hula-hoop.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, spread out onto the field with your ball.   
  • When I say, “GO!” choose a hula-hoop to throw your ball through.
  • If you make it through the hula-hoop, retrieve your ball and go to a new hula-hoop.
  • If you do not make it through, try again.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. 
Game 2: Encourage children to throw their ball through every hula-hoop color.
Variation: Attach flags to the top of the hula-hoops. Encourage children to try and hit a flag as they throw their ball through the hula-hoop.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Encourage children to keep trying. The emphasis is not on whether they make it into the hula-hoop or not.
  • Safety: Remind children to be aware of the other balls being thrown around them.

EQUIPMENT

1 flag per child

1 Nerf football per child

5 short cones

1 tall cone

1 hula-hoop

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Hand Offs. Your goal is to receive a hand off from Coach and run as fast as you can through the course.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up single file behind the first short cone.   
  • When I say, “GO!” the first person in line will receive a football, then will run in a weaving pattern around the short cones.
  • When you have made it to the end, run around the tall cone and head back to the end of the line.
  • We will begin a new game once everyone has made it through the course.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. 
Game 2: Lightly toss the football to the children instead of handing it off. 

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Do not let the next person in line go until the person in front of them has finished weaving around the short cones.
  • Safety: Demonstrate how the children should run through the course before starting.

EQUIPMENT

1 noodle per parent

1 Nerf football per child

1 flag per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Blockers. Your goal is to see how many times you can run through the blockers (noodles) while still holding onto your football.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, parents will form a line with their noodles.   
  • Everyone else will begin on the baseline with their football.
  • When I say, “GO!” run through the tunnel of blockers.
  • If you drop your football pick it up and try again.
  • If you make it through the blockers wait on the end line until everyone is finished.
  • We will begin a new game once everyone has made it to the end line.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. 
Game 2: Have parents and children switch roles. 

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Demonstrate how children should run through the blockers while properly protecting their football.
  • Safety: Remind children they will not get hurt while running through the blockers.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Hot Routes. Your goal is to receive a hand off from your parent and run different patterned routes.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up behind a set of dots.    
  • When I say, “GO!” your parent will hike (pass) you the football.
  • Run with the football making your way to each colored dot.
  • When you have made it through a course, come back to the beginning and try a different one.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. 
Game 2: Lightly toss the football instead of handing it off. 

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Wait until the person in front of you has made it through the course to begin.  
  • Safety: Demonstrate how the children should run through the course before starting.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Football Obstacle Course. Your goal is to make your way from the beginning of the obstacle course to the end.  

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up single file behind the marker cone.    
  • When I say, “GO!” the first person in line will make his/her way across the balance beams, high-knee through the hula-hoops, weave around the tall cones and throw their football through the last hula-hoop.
  • If you fall off the balance beams, restart and try again.
  • The next person in line can go when the person in front of you has made it onto the second balance beam.
  • Once you have made your throw, retrieve your ball and restart.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children it is not a race when going through the obstacle course. It is more important they can do it correctly.
  • Approach: Encourage parents to help their child or hold their hand when balancing on the balance beam.
  • Safety: Demonstrate how to go through the obstacle course before beginning.

EQUIPMENT

Large parachute

STORYLINE
Today we are ending our class with a parachute game. We are going to try to make a big cave with our parachute. 

CLEAN UP

  • Have kids clean up the equipment using color (i.e. Pick up a piece of equipment that is red, blue, green etc.)

CLOSING PARACHUTE

  • Make big waves with the parachute like the ocean!
  • Make small waves like the lake!
  • Now we're going to make a cave. Tell parents that on the count of 3, we're going to lift the parachute to the sky and walk 3 steps forward, placing the parachute under our bottoms to make a cave. 
    • If the cave is not high enough, make the cave again. 
  • Once under the parachute, choose a few songs to sing based on how much time you have left:
  • Options for songs: 
    • Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes 
    • The Wheels on the Bus
    • Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
    • Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
    • Baby Beluga In the Deep Blue Sea
    • The Ants Go Marching Two by Two
