EQUIPMENT

1 foam ring per child

1 dot per child

STORYLINE
Today we are going to start class by taking a few trips. We'll start on our dots and take a car, a plane and a train! 

OPENING RUNS

  • Today we're going to take some trips. Grab your steering wheels, we're going to go for our first drive! 
  • Have kids pretend to drive their "cars" to one end of the field and park their cars at their dots.
    • Drive to the park and ask kids, "what do you see at the park? do you like to use the slide? the swings?"
    • Drive to the zoo and ask kids, "what animals do you see at the zoo? what animal has a long trunk?" 
    • Drive to Disneyland or the grocery store or movies and ask kids, "what do you see at these places" 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be airplanes!" Collect all of the steering wheels.
    • Fly to Hawaii and ask kids, "what animals live in the ocean?"
      • Have kids do the hula dance with you for extra fun 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be a train!" Put your arm up and say, "Chooo, choo, we're going to take the train to San Francisco. 
    • Train to SF and ask kids, "what's the big bridge called in San Francisco?" 
      • Show kids how to make a bridge with their hands and say, "the Golden Gate bridge is red! What color is the bridge?"
  • Add any variations needed to make it more fun or take different trips.

EQUIPMENT

1 soccer ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Pass the Gap. Your goal is to pass the ball through the gap to your parent.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, spread out onto the field with your ball.  
  • You should be 3 – 5 feet away from your parent.  
  • When I say, “GO!” begin passing the ball back and forth.  
  • Count aloud each kick you make.
  • For every three kicks you make, take a step backwards to widen your gap.  
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.  
Game 2: For increased difficulty take a step back after every kick to increase the distance between child and parent.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Encourage parents to praise their child when a complete catch is made.
  • Safety: Remind children to be aware of the other balls being kicked around them.

EQUIPMENT

1 soccer ball per child

5 short cones

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Mr. Fox. In this game, you are traveling through the woods with your basket (soccer ball) and you need to know the time. Your goal is to ask Mr. Fox what time it is before it is dinner time.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline with your basket.
  • Coach will begin as Mr. Fox.
  • When I say, “GO!” shout, “what time is it, Mr. Fox?”
  • Kick your basket forward for each hour Mr. Fox says.  
  • When Mr. Fox says, “It’s dinner time!” dribble your basket back to the baseline without getting tagged.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. Call out different times up to 3 o’clock.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children to dribble their basket after Mr. Fox says, “It’s dinner time!”
  • Approach: Consider allowing the children to reach the baseline without getting tagged for the first few games.

EQUIPMENT

6 hula-hoops

1 soccer ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Bermuda Triangle. Your goal is to swim from island to island (hula-hoop) while protecting your coconut (soccer ball).

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, chose an island to start on with your coconut. 
  • I will begin on the center island.
  • When I say, “GO!” start dribbling your coconut to another island.
  • Once you get to another island, stop your coconut by placing your foot on top of the ball.
  • We will begin a new game when everyone has made it to another island.  
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Call out specific colors children have to dribble to.
Game 3: Coach starts off at the center island and can steal anyone’s coconut.
Game 4: Time limit – children must get to an island before time is up.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Start with only three islands first then add more depending on child skill level.
  • Approach: Remind students to keep their heads up while dribbling to avoid bumping into others.

EQUIPMENT

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Meteor Shower. In this game, you are astronauts in space when you see a crazy alien. Your goal is kick your moon rock (soccer ball) towards the alien.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, spread out onto the field with your ball.
  • I will begin as the alien.
  • When I say, “GO!” begin dribbling your moon rock towards the alien as he/she runs away.
  • Once you are near the alien, try to kick your moon rock in his/her direction.
  • See how many times your moon rock can hit the alien.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above. 

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: If Coach gets hit with a fuzzy ball, pretend to fall down or get injured.
  • Safety: Remind children to be aware of the other balls being kicked around them.

EQUIPMENT

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Birds of a Feather. In this game, you are all different kinds of birds. Your goal is to dribble your egg all around the field.  

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, choose any kind of bird you want and line up on the baseline with your egg.
  • When I say, “GO!” start dribbling your egg anywhere in the field.
  • When I say, "Birds of a feather" find a different egg and start dribbling.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Coach can be the eagle and try to tag the other birds.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind students to keep their heads up while dribbling to avoid bumping into others.
  • Approach: Remind students they should be dribbling and not kicking the ball far forward. Students should not be more than two feet away from their ball.
  • Approach: Students cannot go back to their same egg. They must find a different one each time.

EQUIPMENT

Large parachute

 

STORYLINE
Today we are ending our class with a  parachute game. We are going to try to make a big cave with our parachute. 

CLEAN UP

  • Have kids clean up the equipment using color (i.e. Pick up a piece of equipment that is red, blue, green etc.)

CLOSING PARACHUTE

  • Make big waves with the parachute like the ocean!
  • Make small waves like the lake!
  • Now we're going to make a cave. Tell parents that on the count of 3, we're going to lift the parachute to the sky and walk 3 steps forward, placing the parachute under our bottoms to make a cave. 
    • If the cave is not high enough, make the cave again. 
  • Once under the parachute, choose a few songs to sing based on how much time you have left:
  • Options for songs: 
    • Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes 
    • The Wheels on the Bus
    • Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
    • Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
    • Baby Beluga In the Deep Blue Sea
    • The Ants Go Marching Two by Two
