EQUIPMENT

1 foam ring per child

1 dot per child 

STORYLINE
Today we are going to start class by taking a few trips. We'll start on our dots and take a car, a plane and a train! 

OPENING RUNS

  • Today we're going to take some trips. Grab your steering wheels, we're going to go for our first drive! 
  • Have kids pretend to drive their "cars" to one end of the field and park their cars at their dots.
    • Drive to the park and ask kids, "what do you see at the park? do you like to use the slide? the swings?"
    • Drive to the zoo and ask kids, "what animals do you see at the zoo? what animal has a long trunk?" 
    • Drive to Disneyland or the grocery store or movies and ask kids, "what do you see at these places" 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be airplanes!" Collect all of the steering wheels.
    • Fly to Hawaii and ask kids, "what animals live in the ocean?"
      • Have kids do the hula dance with you for extra fun 
  • Then say, "now we're going to be a train!" Put your arm up and say, "Chooo, choo, we're going to take the train to San Francisco. 
    • Train to SF and ask kids, "what's the big bridge called in San Francisco?" 
      • Show kids how to make a bridge with their hands and say, "the Golden Gate bridge is red! What color is the bridge?"
  • Add any variations needed to make it more fun or take different trips.

EQUIPMENT

1 Wiffle Ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Field of Dreams. Your goal is to catch a thrown ground ball from your parent.   

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, spread out anywhere in the field with your wiffle ball and parent.  
  • When I say, “GO!” parents will underhand throw a ground ball to their child.
  • After a throw is made try and catch it.
  • Count aloud each catch that you make.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Variation: For increased difficulty, increase the distance between parent and child.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children to keep their hands extended, get low to the ground and watch the ball go all the way into their hands when fielding.

EQUIPMENT

1 hula-hoop

1 fuzzy ball per child

1 Wiffle ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Catch the Ball. In this game, Coach is throwing the balls in all different directions. Your goal is to catch as many balls as possible and bring them back to the hula-hoop.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, spread out into the infield.  
  • When I say, “GO!” I will begin throwing the balls out to different children.
  • Try your best to catch to the balls—some balls may be pop flies and some may be grounders.  
  • Once you have a ball, quickly bring it back to the hula-hoop and return to a spot on the field.  
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Have children throw the balls into the hula-hoop.
Game 3: Coach tosses the balls out and parent and child can toss back and forth.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children they must be aware of others when catching a ground ball.

EQUIPMENT

20 dots

1 fuzzy ball per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Lily Pads. In this game, the frog is getting very hungry. Your goal is to feed the frog by underhand throwing your ball into the frog’s mouth (hula-hoop).

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, find a place anywhere in the field with your ball.
  • When I say, “GO!” stand on any lily pad and underhand throw into the frog’s mouth.
  • Once you have thrown, get your ball and try a new lily pad to throw from.
  • See how many lily pads you can throw form.  
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Call out a specific color children have to throw from.

  • Approach: Remind children to be aware of others when throwing their ball.

EQUIPMENT

4 bases

3 beanbags per child

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Running Bases. Your goal is to run a complete home run around all the bases.  

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up behind Coach at home base.
  • When I say, “GO!” follow Coach as he/she runs all the bases in order.
  • Make sure you step on each base and call out it’s name (“1st”, “2nd”, “3rd”, “Home”) when you get to it.
  • Once you have reached home base we will begin a new game.
 

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Set a beanbag on each base. Children have to run around the bases and collect all the beanbags.

 

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children to keep their heads up while running around the bases to avoid bumping into others.

EQUIPMENT

4 bases

4 balance beams

1 tee

1 bat

1 Wiffle ball

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Baseball Lava. In this game, a volcano has erupted during our baseball game. Your goal is to hit the ball off the tee and balance along the beams to the bases without falling into the hot lava!

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, line up single file behind home plate.
  • When I call your name, come up to home plate and get ready to bat. Have parents help their children bat the ball off the tee.
  • Once you hit the ball off the tee, it is a home run!
  • Make your way around the baseball diamond by balancing on the beams to each base.
  • If you fall into the hot lava, quickly get back on the beam and continue. 
  • Once you have reached 1st base, the next child can come up to bat.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Remind children to keep their heads up while balancing on the beams.
  • Approach: If children are taking a while to finish the course, remove two balance beams.

EQUIPMENT

Large parachute

STORYLINE
Today we are ending our class with a parachute game. We are going to try to make a big cave with our parachute. 

CLEAN UP

  • Have kids clean up the equipment using color (i.e. Pick up a piece of equipment that is red, blue, green etc.)

CLOSING PARACHUTE

  • Make big waves with the parachute like the ocean!
  • Make small waves like the lake!
  • Now we're going to make a cave. Tell parents that on the count of 3, we're going to lift the parachute to the sky and walk 3 steps forward, placing the parachute under our bottoms to make a cave. 
    • If the cave is not high enough, make the cave again. 
  • Once under the parachute, choose a few songs to sing based on how much time you have left:
  • Options for songs: 
    • Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes 
    • The Wheels on the Bus
    • Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
    • Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
    • Baby Beluga In the Deep Blue Sea
    • The Ants Go Marching Two by Two
