PREFACE

Today we are playing Scavenger Hunt. Your goal is to work together to find all the Letters(or Clues) and figure out what it says!

SET-UP

  • The camp manager should have some tape and a marker to write down a word (For example “Field Goal” or “Touchdown” or “Hopscotch” etc).

    • Rip up the tape into individual letters or rip them up and then write letters on. Take the letters and spread them out around the field (on walls, on a cone, on a ball, on the ground, etc)

      • Make sure they are in areas and campers can be in, and remind them there are no letters hidden in areas like the bleachers!

    • Have the white board out and campers can tape their found letters to it.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • The game should have been set up before hand. Have Coaches keep an eye out and make sure no letters are being taken before the game starts.

  • The Camp Manager will explain the rules of the game as each team is sitting in their designated area.

  • When the Camp Manager blows the whistle, everyone will go around searching for the hidden letters.

    • When a letter is found, bring it over to the white board and attach it. The camp manager will write it out big in marker for everyone to see (Designate how many letters there are to find)

    • Once all the letters are found, call in all the campers and let 1 person from each team guess the word ONCE before the next person guesses. After each guess another person from the team comes up

      • The rest of the team is allowed to discuss quietly, but shout-outs will result in losing their turn or not counting.

    • First team to guess the word wins!

Variation(Highly Recommended): Hide multiple un-cut words and have Teams collect words on their side of the board. Team that finds the most words wins! (Make sure everyone knows whose on their team - such as Team 1 on this side of the board and Team 2 on the other)

Variation: Make it a phrase like “End of the Rainbow” in order to add more letters to find

Variation: Have different colored tape for multiple words to find (“Basketball” on red tape and “Soccer” on blue tape

TEACHING TIPS

  • Remind campers not to fight over letters they find at the same time

  • Depending on time constraints choose easier or harder locations to hide letters
