OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing hockey. In this game, the objective is to score as many goals as possible.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide you into teams of five – using flags to tell who you are.
  • Ro Sham Bo to decide which team will start with the ball.
  • When I say, "GO!" the team with the ball will start first.
  • You cannot check, shove or push another teammate.
  • If a ball goes out-of-bounds, the teacher will throw it in.
  • Defending students must remain 3 – 5 feet away from their goal.
  • If a goal is scored, the opposing team starts with the ball at the midline.
  • After 10 minutes, we will rotate teams.

Game 1: Play as indicated above.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Increase the number of courts based on class size. There should be no more than five students per team.
  • Approach: If not all students are participating, enforce a rule stating that teams cannot score unless each teammate has received a pass.
  • Discussion: Ask students to share what was easy or hard about getting back on defense during this game.
