STORYLINE
Skating is hard without the Vs so we are going to try a new technique that Rob suggested from SportsPlex. We should only offer skating for those that want to try it and are 8 years or older. For the campers that do not want to skate, we need to get them back into activities with the next group. Coaches should be active and aware when all the campers on the rink. CIT’s and Coaches should not be skating during campers skate time, but rather walking around and helping the campers.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 - We need to have all campers sit at the tables and put their helmet and then put on their skates. Our coaches need to be aware of those that have never skated before. Coaches will ask the group a few questions and will also detail the rules that we must follow.
Step 2 - Coaches and CIT’s will walk all campers slowly to the rink. We ask that all new skaters hold onto wall and skate down the wall. They will use the wall in order to slowly “scale” the wall.
Step 3 - As the campers get comfortable, all campers should try to "cut the corner" and skate a small section without the wall. Please be aware of speed or any camper that does not look comfortable.
Step 4 - All campers skate from holding onto the wall to the hockey goals and back. We should place our coach and CIT on either side of the rink. If a skater looks like they cannot reach the opposite end of the rink, please help and guide them to the wall.
Step 5 - Move out as necessary. The activity should be fun for the first time skaters. Please make suggestions to the manager/lead if we need to make any adjustments to our skate time.
