STORYLINE
Today we are Warming Up before our games. Your goal is to follow the Coach and listen to the instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS
- When I say, “GO!” run in the different animal movements from the baseline to the end line.
- Run like a turtle (run slowly and put your arms behind your back)
- Run like a cheetah (run as fast as you can)
- Run like a giraffe (put your arms together above your head to make a long neck)
- Run like an elephant (put your arm out in front of your body to make a trunk)
- Run like a penguin(put your arms out to the sideand waddle)
- Run like a dog
- Swim like a fish (use your arms to swim)
- Duck walk (squat and waddle like a duck)
- Bear crawl
- Hop like a bunny
- Leap like a frog

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Sharks and Minnows. In this game, you are all fish swimming in shark-infested waters. Your goal is to safely swim (dribble) without a shark (tagger) eating you.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline with your ball.
- I will begin as the shark.
- When I say, “GO!” start swimming to the end line.
- If a shark tags you or kicks your ball out-of-bounds, you become seaweed.
- If you are seaweed, you must keep your feet planted where you were tagged. You may only move your arms to try and tag other minnows.
- We will begin a new game when there is one minnow is left.
Game 1: Have children practice running to the end line without a ball first. Game 2: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Tagged children become sharks.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Remind children to keep their heads up while dribbling to avoid bumping into others.
- Approach: Remind children they should be dribbling and not kicking the ball far forward. Children should not be more than two feet away from their soccer ball.
- Discussion: Ask children to share who they saw doing a good job at keeping the ball close while they dribbled away from the shark.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Rolling Snowballs. Your goal is to collect all the snowballs so that you are able to build an igloo.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-shoulder on the baseline.
- When I call your name, you have to run to the snowball that I have rolled out and dribble it to either igloo.
- We will begin a new game when an igloo is full.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Based on class size, roll out two snowballs at a time. Game 3: Rearrange the igloos.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Quickly roll out each ball and call each child’s name with little time in between.
- Discussion: Ask children to share who they saw doing a good job at keeping their snowball close while dribbling.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Wake Up Coach. In this game, Coach has fallen asleep and you need to wake me up! It is not naptime; it is soccer time!
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up behind a marker cone with your soccer ball facing the wall.
- When I say, “GO!” start kicking your ball against the wall. Try and make lots of noise.
- When Coach wakes up, you must freeze.
Game 1: Play as indicated above. Children must walk and dribble.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Children should be kicking the ball into the wall using their laces.
- Safety: Make sure children are a safe distance from the coach and each other when kicking the balls.
- Discussion: Ask children to share who they saw doing a good job kicking the ball to try and wake up Coach.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Scrimmage C. Your goal is to shoot a soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal.
- INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide you into two teams – offense and defense using soccer pinnies to tell who you are.
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder with your team on either the baseline or end line.
- When I say, “GO!” the offense will dribble down the field and try to kick their ball into the opposing team’s
- goal.
- The defense will try and block the shots.
- If you score on goal, run back to the baseline and sit down.
- We will begin a new game and switch roles after three minutes.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Divide teams equally based on athletic ability.
- Approach: Remind children, there are no goalies. Defenders must stand at least 3 – 5 feet away from the goal at all times.
- Approach: Add short cones around the goal if defenders are not staying 3 – 5 feet away.
- Discussion: Ask children to share what was easy or hard about keeping the ball close while dribbling.

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Jumping Jackrabbits. In this game you are jackrabbits trying to get to the other end of the forest (end line). Your goal is to safely jump over the logs (soccer balls) and run to the other side.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
- When I say, “GO!” run to the midline, jump over the logs and run to the end of the forest.
- When you get to the end of the forest, sit down.
- We will begin a new game when everyone has made it to the end of the forest.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Children must jump over the logs, run to the end of the forest, then turn around and dribble a log back to the baseline.
Game 3: Increase the number of jumps children must do before running to the end of the forest. Game 4: Add a goal. Children must run, jump and dribble a log to the goal.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Demonstrate how the children should run and jump before the game begins.

1 hula-hoop

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Free the Giants. Your goal is to help free the giants who are trapped inside the avalanche (hula-hoop) of boulders (soccer balls).
INSTRUCTIONS
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline.
- When I say, “GO!” run to the hula-hoop, find a boulder and kick it in the direction of the baseline.
- You may only kick one boulder at a time.
- Keep kicking the boulders towards the baseline until the avalanche has been cleared.
- The giant cannot move until every boulder has been removed.
- We will begin a new game when I select a new giant.
Game 1: Play as indicated above. Teacher is the giant.
Game 2: Play as indicated above. Add multiple giants based on class size.
Game 3: When all the boulders are removed, giants can break free and tag everyone. Children must make it back to the baseline without being tagged by the giants.

- Approach: Ask children to help you create the avalanche before the game begins.
- Discussion: Ask children to share who they saw doing a good job at kicking the boulders towards the baseline.
