EQUIPMENT
1 bag of volleyballs
STORYLINE
Today we are playing Clean Up Your Yard. Your goal is to keep as much trash (volleyballs) out of your yard by hitting or throwing it over the net and into the other team’s yard.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide everyone into two teams.
- When I say, “GO!” each team will hit or serve all of the trash from their side to the other team’s side.
- You may not throw trash directly at another person.
- You may only throw one ball at a time.
- After a two-minute round, each team will collect and count all of the balls on only their side.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: If a child does not want to play the game, consider designating him/her as the ball master, where he/she can rescue balls that go out-of-bounds.
- Approach: If hitting or serving is too difficult, allow children to throw the volleyballs over the net.
- Approach: Adjust the net so that it is appropriate of the children’s age group.
- Safety: Remind children to make sure there is no one directly in front of them when they are throwing.
