    • Drive to the park and ask kids, "what do you see at the park? do you like to use the slide? the swings?"

    • Drive to the zoo and ask kids, "what animals do you see at the zoo? what animal has a long trunk?"

    • Drive to Disneyland or the grocery store or movies and ask kids, "what do you see at these places"

  • Then say, "now we're going to be airplanes!" Collect all of the steering wheels.

    • Fly to Hawaii and ask kids, "what animals live in the ocean?"

      • Have kids do the hula dance with you for extra fun

Today we are playing Simon Says. During this game, we will be practicing our body awareness and direction as we follow along to Simon’s instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, parents, help your child find a seat on the baseline.

  • I will begin as Simon.

  • Follow the instructions when, "Simon says….”

  • If I do not say, “Simon says” then stay still.

  • While we are seated, we will begin to identify specific body parts as Simon Says...:

    • Point and flex your feet.

    • Bend your knees.

    • Find your elbows.

    • Touch your nose; etc.

  • Now, as we are standing, we will practice our direction as Simon Says…:

    • Lift your arms to the side.

    • Wiggle your fingers in the air/down low to the ground.

    • Turn your head side-to-side; etc.

  • Now, we will practice our direction as we move around the field as Simon Says…:

    • Walk to the end line.

    • Run to the baseline.

    • Hop like frogs; etc.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: The goal is not to “trick” children, but to encourage them to learn direction as well as their different body parts.
