3 fuzzy balls
3 beach balls
3 foam/dodge balls

STORYLINE
For today’s Parachute Time, we will be playing Bouncing Balls. In this game, we will be practicing our hand-eye coordination as we try and catch the balls as they bounce on the parachute.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, find a seated spot around the parachute.
  • Let’s listen very carefully to the directions that I give:
    • Can we shake all the wrinkles out of the parachute?
    • Now let’s shake, shake, shake and freeze (repeat 3-5xs).
    • Can we shake the parachute side-to-side?
    • Let’s shake the parachute down low/up high.
  • Now, this time, I will add the balls to the parachute:
    • When I say, “GO!” let’s begin shaking the balls off the parachute.
    • When all the balls are popped off, let’s throw them back onto the parachute.
  • Now, this time, I will call 1–2 children at a time to try and catch a ball:
    • If your name is called, come on top of the parachute.
    • When I say, “GO!” everyone will begin shaking the parachute while the children on top may move around and try and catch a ball before it bounces off.
    • Parents and children, remain seated while we shake the parachute.
  • Once everyone has had a turn on top of the parachute, let’s let all the children go underneath while the parents shake the parachute.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Encourage parents to help their children remain seated while playing with the parachute. This will help prevent children from going underneath or on top of the parachute.
